TECHNICAL EXPERTISE is the driver of our highly successful civil operations.
Our extensive project portfolio illustrates our diverse civil expertise. This expertise is the driver behind our capacity to deliver projects on time and on budget, and that is why we have the confidence of so many repeat clients. Our construction teams draw on our leading-edge systems to deliver the innovative, practical solutions that are critical to a project’s success. Below, our clients and other construction partners talk about the technical expertise of the PCL family of companies:
Indiantown Road Bascule Bridge
The Indiantown bascule bridge was constructed over the Intracoastal Waterway in Jupiter, Florida. In terms of complexity, this project had everything. The span over the waterway included structural steel along with machined mechanical components and hydraulics. Approaches included AASHTO girder bridges along with temporary and permanent reinforced earth walls. The control house for the bridge included everything from control panels and generators to marine toilets and bullet proof glass.

Glade Creek Bridge
PCL Civil Constructors, Inc., formerly Westbrook Construction, constructed this four-lane bridge over Glade Creek in the mountains of West Virginia. The two main piers for the bridge are 350 feet and 300 feet tall and were formed with self-climbing jump forms. Steel truss spans are 560 feet, 785 feet and 560 feet. Access made the bridge construction technically-challenging, especially in the winter when flooding occurred in the creek with melting snow creating swift currents. The PCL construction team used a cableway suspension system to "stick-frame" the trusses forming the superstructure of this landmark bridge.
